James Madison University College of Arts and Letters

As communications and marketing assistant, then specialist, I spearheaded college branding, feature writing, copy editing and content creation for web, social media, email and print. Read feature articles here.

Web Design & Management

After working with JMU Web Marketing to restructure and redesign the preexisting college website through Cascade, I worked alongside dean’s office administration to update old web copy and write new copy, tailored to prospective students, according to the JMU Brand Guide.

Discover yourself and your passion through study that will broaden your horizons and sharpen your intellect.

In the first five months of part-time social media content creation and management, I increased page following on Twitter by 11%, Instagram by 29% and Facebook by 138%. I wrote captions and created content across Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, YouTube and LinkedIn.

Email Marketing

Seven succinct, skimmable and conversational email newsletters were sent to a large subsection of the college’s nearly 40,000 living alumni, many of whom had never received direct communication at the college level. Created and sent through iModules, emails had an average unique open rate of 21%, on par with MailChimp’s national average.

Print Marketing

Collaborating with representatives from each of the college’s ten academic departments and using an Adobe InDesign template provided by JMU Recruitment Marketing, I wrote on-brand copy, and edited provided copy, for 13 undergraduate and six graduate program overview sheets. The college’s first branded print materials were distributed at recruitment information sessions.
